Amidst a diplomatic crisis, French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau accuses Algeria of aggression for refusing to repatriate its nationals subject to expulsion orders (OQTF). He advocates for a "graduated response," including potential measures like suspending privileges for Algerian officials and reconsidering the 2007 agreements. The French government seeks to project unity on the issue despite perceived internal disagreements. Relations between France and Algeria have deteriorated since France recognized Morocco's autonomy plan for Western Sahara. France considers denouncing the 1968 agreement that grants Algerian citizens a special status. Retailleau suggested he would resign if his security concerns were not met. The Foreign Ministry is working on a graduated response, with the possibility of recalling the French ambassador.
